About Dr. Mick

Dr. MickDr. Mick is a medical doctor with a special interest in preventive medicine and actualizing people's potential for attaining a high level of wellness. He has spent many years researching the positive impacts that good nutrition, an active, outdoors lifestyle, mutually nourishing relationships, and a state of tranquil mindfulness can have on people's health and longevity.

Dr. Mick practices what he preaches. His lifestyle includes hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, rock climbing, and alpine skiing. He has meditated for many decades, and has written extensively about the science of healthy eating and the art of healthy cooking. A staunch advocate of science-based medicine, Dr. Mick's lectures and publications are informed by the substantial evidence produced by high-quality medical research.

Practicing medicine in Hawaii for over two decades and traveling widely exposed Dr. Mick to a broad array of people and their cultures. Learning about the many different belief systems, lifestyles, food preferences, and healing practices enabled Dr. Mick to develop a trans-cultural perspective on health, wellness, and healing that he now applies to his teaching and writing.

In addition to his Doctor of Medicine degree, Dr. Mick holds a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and a Master's degree in Marine Biology and Science Teaching. He has held faculty positions at several universities and medical schools, made appearances on radio and television, and has conducted many workshops and seminars around the country. This website, his Healthy Living Blog and Coronavirus Blog, as well as his Healthy Living Books have enabled Dr. Mick to share his extensive knowledge with a worldwide audience.
